J. Perry Maisonneuve is the Founder and Principal of Northern Lights Consultants Corp. A Certified Management Consultant ("CMC"), Mr. Maisonneuve was educated at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Mr. Maisonneuve began his professional career as a staff auditor with Deloitte and Touche Chartered Accountants before joining a multi-national franchisor as Director of Franchise Operations for Canada and the United States. Mr. Maisonneuve subsequently worked with a diverse range of franchisors in the marketing and expansion of their systems before going on to establish Northern Lights Consultants Corp. in 1998.
J. Perry Maisonneuve is often interviewed and quoted by the media, and has published numerous books and articles on the subject of franchising. He is also a frequent public speaker and lecturer in this area.
Mr. Maisonneuve has provided expert testimony in franchise disputes as well as being listed in LEXPERT as an Expert Witness for litigation purposes regarding franchising matters.

Lawrence (Larry) Smith serves as a Senior Consultant with the Firm. Mr. Smith has held various senior financial and operational management positions in franchisor organizations for over 27 years. Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Financial Accounting) from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec as well as a Bachelor of Arts (Mathematics) from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Mr. Smith then qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen before joining Reitman’s Canada in Montreal as General Office Manager from 1979 to 1985. Relocating to Toronto, Ontario, Mr. Smith then joined Lanpar Technologies in Markham, Ontario as Senior Corporate Controller from 1985 to 1988 followed by the Toronto Symphony as its Director of Finance from 1988 to 1993.
Mr. Smith co-founded the franchise system Monsieur Felix and Mr. Norton in 1993. Responsible for the development of franchisees in the Toronto-area market, Mr. Smith’s duties included franchise selection and training, site selection, store construction and store operations. Mr. Smith successfully grew the chain to 7 locations in Toronto before selling his interest to the majority shareholder in 1998.
Larry Smith then continued his career in franchising by joining We Care Health Services Inc. (“We Care”), as its Vice President, Finance from 1998 to 2003 and Vice President of Franchising and Administration from 2003 until 2012. We Care, a highly successful home health care franchise system, was a national chain of franchised offices providing clinical care (nursing), personal care and support to clients, primarily in their homes. Among other key accomplishments, Mr. Smith implemented a state-of-the-art system-wide metrics and benchmarking platform that collected and analysed franchisee-specific diagnostics. This platform was instrumental in optimizing the focus, cost-effectiveness and timeliness of the franchisor’s operational support of its franchisees.
In 2008, Mr. Smith then played a major role in a franchisee reacquisition strategy for certain key locations across the country.
From 2012 to 2020, Mr. Smith continued to provide his expertise to CBI and its remaining franchisees as an independent consultant. Most recently, Larry Smith successfully negotiated a mutually agreeable de-branding of the remaining franchisees such that the former franchisees continue to operate as established. The parties continue to work collaboratively on various local contracts.
